UTC Writer’s Room Showcase
Underground Theatre is excited to present our Writer’s Room 2025 Showcase! Over the course of nine weeks, a group of six writers produced original fifteen minute plays – now you get the opportunity to come along, have a drink, and watch some brilliant original theatre. Six staged readings, written, directed, and read by local young artists in the Meanjin community.

She wonders how someone could do something so horrible. He wonders what he did wrong. Clementine and Daniel meet in an old graveyard exchanging stories from their past and clinging to a rare moment of human connection while dealing with grief, trauma and loneliness.

Two uni students attempt to summon the ex-opposition leader through a Bloody Mary style ritual. He escapes to a nearby underfunded public school and meets a fourteen year old boy who begins to influence his policy decisions.
The Lake by Artemisia Allan
Ella, a young uni student living with her older partner Max, comes home one night to find a dead body in the lake outside Max’s property. During the two’s short exchange, the discovery of the body brings to a sudden light the nature of these characters and leads Ella to question her relationship with Max and with herself.

It’s two hours into a two week data retrieval mission when everything goes wrong. Something hits the ship, cutting off astronauts Armstrong and Valentine from their system, and their oxygen. They only have a few minutes left to figure out how to live – or how to die.

To escape from the inevitable heat death of their universe, a human civilisation highly advanced and evolved created our universe as a dummy one for the remainder of their humankind to take refuge in, where they hide from our senses by thriving in a dimension overlapped with our world we cannot perceive. Or this is what those addicted to Synaptin; a novel psychedelic that they say ‘makes you see through dimensions’ claim.

After moving to the city for her nursing job, Emma runs into Gray, an old high school friend chasing their dream of music. Over microwave dinners, they confront their dreams and past feelings about each other. They must decide if they are becoming the people they want to be, or just who they ended up as.
