Hana Macklin (V)

(V) brings together the finely sharpened skills of five women local to Magan-djin (Brisbane) to realise lead vocalist and visionary Hana’s current body of work (from her forthcoming WIP album), which blends neo-soul, jazz, R&B, progressive and world music influences with diverse electro/acoustic instrumentation: keys/synth, flute, cello, synth bass, drums, five sets of vocal cords and an array of effects.

Thematically, the material speaks to Mother Nature; to the cosmos; to the imagination and the spirit; and carries playful childlike wonder alongside heavier prayerful moments; pure hope for humanity and joyous celebration of life’s beauty alongside dark reflection and angst at the world’s injustices.
Supporting on the night will be Shugorei and an opening act TBA.
Shugorei evokes shimmering rituals where vibraphone, live percussion, analogue synths and found-sound collide, merging IDM vitality, a classical heart and dreams of things to be, or never were. Formed by percussionist Nozomi Omote and producer Thomas Green in 2019, they weave Japanese mysticism with bricolage textures into vivid, cinematic portraits unfolding across magical landscapes.
