FEMME FOLK: a celebration of femme indie-folk songwriters and their bands

NHU

This is Nhu.

She performs with the best band in the world. They are dear friends she loves deeply and has even written songs about.

Her music explores goodbyes, the reflections found in change and grief, the friendships that stay with us, and the many ways love reshapes itself over a lifetime. Blending raw emotional truths with the interplay that comes from years of making music together, Nhu invites audiences into something honest, moving, and deeply human.

“It’s for me and all the friends I’ve loved before.”

Molly Quant

Over the last 12 months, Molly’s original music has gained traction in the Brisbane music scene. As a jazz singer, she would nestle her songs between jazz standards in a set, but as these songs started to capture the attention of listeners and quickly became the focal point of her sound.

Her writing incorporates jazz-informed harmony with warm, folky textures, unexpected yet catchy melodies and deeply emotional, often imagery-based lyrics. With an emphasis on freedom in her sound, her music is constantly evolving, creating a special and unique experience at every performance. For the first time, join her at Can You Keep a Secret for a night of exclusively folk and original music!

Milly & the Maths Show

Milly and the Maths Show is a family band that plays amongst influences from various storytelling traditions, such as folk, country, indie-rock and art music. Weaving together intricate sonic textures and emotionally resonant melodies and echoing the likes of Joanna Newsom, Kate Bush, Gillian Welch, and Radiohead, the project explores themes of war & peace, intergenerational grief, solitude, love and connection.

Off the back of three single releases since the end of 2025, the band is building strong momentum in the Brisbane original music scene, based on a unique approach to songwriting, and the band’s focus on community building with audiences, other artists and local venues.
